Spring has sprung and with it has come the fresh new energy of the season. Your Miss NC America has been a busy bee since my last installment of excellence. I’d like to start with an update about Miss Kyla, our new friend awaiting a heart transplant. She has had quite a few ups and downs but she is standing strong and fighting the fight. We started a fundraising page for her and you can make a donation to her family to help with the costs associated with this medical journey they are on. Just go to her Go Fund Me page. We have been so fortunate to have Kyla’s story shared all across this country from local news publications to our interviews in People magazine. I hope that this will lead to as much love and support offered to Kyla and her family as possible.
In other news, I have hit the busy season with my career, charity work for the Crape Myrtle Festival, and being Miss NC America. Yes, it’s like having three full-time jobs but I love it. A highlight for me lately was performing a duet with former Miss Gay America and Miss NC America, Coti Collins at Legends in late March.
Later that weekend, I held my first city preliminary pageant, Miss Charlotte at the Scorpio on March 27. Everything ran smoothly and we crowned the lovely Shana Nicole. Congrats to her and first alternate, Kristal Ball for their placements at Miss NC America 2016. Congrats also to the lovely Amanda Gee for a beautiful reign and give up. I had the pleasure of working with some awesome folks during the contest such as my sisters Jamie Monroe, Kristin Collins, and Tiffany Storm… as well as Cierra Nicole and Amber Rochelle. For my first prelim, I have to say that I had a great time and everything was professionally conducted. This was great practice.
Later in April, I was invited to perform at Scorpio on a Friday and Chasers on a Saturday, so I geared myself up for a weekend of drag in Charlotte. I had a wonderful time both nights with some great friends. Thanks to James Graebner, Shelita Bonet Hoyle, Satine Allure, and Patti Flat for showing me a good time. Thanks also to Eric Wendt and Tiffany Storm for having me.
The following week was just as busy. I had my final MGNCA photo shoot with DJ Bonet at After Six Photography on Wednesday. If you have not worked with him, you don’t know what you’re missing. He and his brother are true professionals and their work is affordable and quality. Thursday brought another day of work and then a show at Flex, which I hosted. Had a great time with Miss NC USofA Breyannah Allure, Miss Radium Sonja Simone, and the lovely Ivory Winters. It wasn’t over yet though. Friday brought more work during the day and then a road trip with James Greabner and Jeff Miles to Wilmington, NC. We stopped off near Goldsboro for some true NC barbecue and then had an awesome time in the shows at Ibiza with Tara Nicole and Ebony Valentino. I also got to spend some time with my MGNCA sister, Jessica Raynes Starr! So much fun!!!
I’m currently gearing up for all comes next. With just under four months remaining in my reign, I realize that it will be the busiest months of the year and it will fly by. I am, however, enjoying every bit of it. As we begin to seek out our next Miss Gay NC America, I am loving the conversations I'm having with contestants and promoters. There's a lot of passion for excellence within this system and I'm so proud to represent our state this year.
We are currently allowing room for one or two more city preliminary contests. I welcome any contestant or promoter to reach out to me for any information regarding existing or new prelims. Hold on tight folks! Here we go!
With my deepest love and gratitude,
Miss Gay NC America 2015
